Lectures on the life and music of Haydn Wood

These lecture presentations shed light on how Haydn Wood learnt his craft, made his way in the world of music, and became a popular composer.

These lectures are all about romance, struggle and success, and beautiful music.

  • His songs, concertos and light music gems

Gilles Gouset has scoured libraries and archives for articles, correspondence, photographs and recordings related to Haydn Wood. After years of collecting sheet music and memorabilia, and piecing together the story of Haydn Wood's life, he now has enough scintillating material to present an illustrated lecture - or a radio show - complete with splendidly varied music for listening.

In 2009, Gilles gave such lectures on the life and music of Haydn Wood for the Robert Farnon Society in London, and for the Huddersfield and Barnsley Recorded Music Societies in Yorkshire, England. He prepared a radio broadcast on Haydn Wood's music for Manx Radio on the Isle of Man, which was aired in December 2009.

'This is to thank you for a fascinating, entertaining, educational and affectionate presentation of Haydn Wood's life, times and achievements... we loved every minute.' V. W., Garforth, Leeds.
